Focus and Master these 4 things in Wrestling

You will be better than 90% of your opponents

1. Head up in all positions

2. Always in stance in the neutral position

3. Control your opponents hands on top and constant pressure

4. Keep off your belly and hands free on bottom

From Neutral Position…

While circling, DO NOT CROSS YOUR FEET

Control the center of the Mat, YOUR BACK FACING THE CENTER

BACKING UP ON YOUR FEET IS STALLING.

DO NOT REACH… Move forward making contact with the hands then working up the upper body to the head

SHOT ARM AWAYS MOVING… pulling, faking or snapping

In stagger step stance, OPPOSITE ARM is the lead hand

Defend the attack leg FIRST! No attempt to go behind and try to score until lock is broken around the leg

IF YOU CAN TOUCH THE LEG, YOU SHOULD SCORE FROM A FRONT HEADLOCK

WHEN BACKING OUT FROM A SHOT, ATTACK A HAND, WRIST, ELBOW AND MORE OPPOSITE OF THE OPPONENT.

Cement mixer only should be hit when OPPONENTS KNEES ARE ON THE MAT

YOU SHOULD NEVER BE ON YOUR STOMACH. It needs to be aloud alarm system to your knees if you are on your stomach

From the Bottom Position…

Keep wristsand hands free on bottom

Knee slide and constantly move knees, hips and legs so always hips are underneath you.

NEVER EVER, STAY ON YOUR STOMACH. Immediately after being broken down, get up to your base.

ATTACK A HAND ON BOTTOM. Hand control puts top wrestler in a serious disadvantage.

When in doubt, sit out

KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!  Nothing good comes from hanging your head down on bottom.

Always turn OPPOSITE of the pressure, Half, Bar arm, nearside cradle, etc. (EXCEPTION Cross face cradle, turn in)

NEVER REACH BACK TO GRAB A HEAD OR LEG. Reaching back is not wrestling move and usually results in wasting time or putting you in poor position.

Getting out on bottom is an ATTITUDE. You MUST decide before the whistle that you will get out on bottom.

It is a given that if you pick down, you WILL get out.

From the Top Position…

Getting off your knees on top and on your toes, use your legs to drive and apply constant pressure

Being on your knees is for TRANSITIONING from one thing to the next.

When wrestler is on his base, ALWAYS STAY UNDER THEIR ARMS.

When riding on top, YOUR HIPS SHOULD BE IN THEIR POCKETS.

ATTACK A WRIST!

If you have a wrist, it needs to be under the body PULLED TIGHTLY to be effective.

When riding, YOUR HIPS SHOULD ALWAYS BE HIGHER THAN YOUR OPPONENTS HIPS.

On mat return, NEVER pull an opponent on TOP OF YOU. ALWAYS BRING OPPONENT DOWN FORWARD.

Be RELENTLESS when running a pinning combination. Most turns result from PRESSURE. Push the turn until it either works or it isn’t going to work,

By rule, if you are riding parallel, it is STALLING. When you are riding on top, be out to the side at a 45-degree angle.

When running a pinning combination, always be OUT TO THE SIDE to put maximum pressure on your opponent.
